The IAFA is committed to finding ways to make attendance of the ICFA and VICFA feasible for as many financially disadvantaged members of our community as possible, and to doing so in a fair and even-handed way.

Toward this end, we dedicate $3,000 USD to financial assistance annually. For ICFA, the funds will be distributed in the following way:

  • 2 international invited artists/authors: US$500 each
  • 2 scholars: one international at US$700, one from the US at US$300
  • 2 students: one international at US$700, one from the US at US$300

For VICFA, registration fees will be covered, and those funds are supplied to people who reach out to the 1stVP and the VICFA conference organizer and make a specific request for support. Funds are provided on a first-come, first serve basis until all resources are exhausted. This support Does Not apply to Membership fees, which must be in good standing in order to present at VICFA.

We also urge members who are able to contribute to this fund to do so at Donate to Help Provide Grants. These donations will be added to the following year’s assistance fund in the hopes of offering additional awards. Recipients will be decided by blind draw, and will receive a check in the appropriate amount at the end of the conference.

Please note: In order to assist IAFA in funding these grants, IAFA requires that recipients stay at the conference hotel.  The hotel compensates IAFA based on room usage and, in turn, this compensation helps us fund these grants.

Eligibility: All invited artists/authors and scholars not receiving institutional assistance are eligible to apply. All graduate students are eligible to apply.

How to apply: For ICFA, attendees requesting assistance should self-identify to their Division Head (academic programming) or the 2nd VP (creative programming). For VICFA, a request for assistance should be directed to the 1stVP and VICFA conference organizer.
